Catrina with feathered headdress

Attributed by the family Felipe Linares Vargas

Descriptive title, pending confirmation by the artist

An elegant skeleton, standing on a red base, wears a white vertically striped dress and a feather shawl in pink, blue, yellow and green. Above the broad black hat crowned with roses rise two large sky-blue plumes or wings. The hands, bony-fingered with painted nails, reach toward the viewer.

Context

The figure converses with José Guadalupe Posada’s Catrina, one of the sources the Linares family has reinterpreted in cartonería since the time of Pedro Linares López. Photographed in the workshop; the piece appears finished and mounted on its base.
